I haven't been very considerate of my blog lately. It seems that summertime is a distraction.
Do you blame me?
I recently listened to a podcast by Michael Catt on the topic of Bible Illiteracy. Pastor Catt teaches at Sherwood Baptist Church in Alpharetta, Georgia. Sherwood is most known for their movies: Flywheel, Facing the Giants, Fireproof and their current project, Courageous.
I could listen to Michael Catt preach all day long. In fact, I have listened to him all day long. There are about seven different sermons in the series on Bible Illiteracy and I listend to them all in one day.
It was that good.
It resonated with me.
I can quote scripture. I have read books about The Bible. I have been in church almost my whole life. But outside of looking up a verse or learning the childrens' stories, I have never really read The Bible for myself.
Bibles are regulated in China. There are 52 countries that have made owning a bible illegal.
Yet I have owned a bible my whole life and never actually read it through and through.
We have no idea how blessed we are to live where we live.
How can I say that I love God when I have never saturated myself in His word?
I know people who read Nicholas Sparks and Steven King as if their very lives depend on the next publication. What they don't realize, and what I am learning to realize, is that our lives absolutley depend on the words within The Bible.
Matthew 4:4 says, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." (King James Version)
So I started reading it.
And I have to say, I can hardly put it down. He really does speak through His word and I can't wait to share with you what He is saying to me.

I just bought "Flywheel" as a Father's Day gift. :)
I am with you, Erin. Let me know what you are reading and I will join you. :-)
Hugs.

That is wonderful! I am completely in the same category with you and have decided to do a New Testament in 40 Days challenge. I want to be as passionate about reading His word as I am about reading silly vampire novels! BRAVO!
First of all...if those are your abs in the first pic...we can no longer be friends:)
That said- good reminder about where to find REAL good summer reading!
It seems that God is shedding the desire for more of His Word in many of hearts these days.
